TRAMMELL CLINCHES TITLE WITH WIN

September 15, 2012 - As the Track Championship run came to a end last night after a long season of tough racing. The Taz drivers showed what they were made of as they laid it all on the line for another exciting night of racing, while giving the fans what they have come to expect at Tazewell Speedway. "Breathtaking excitment."

First up on a very windy evening would be qualifying.
Steve Smith would lay down the top lap of 12:072 in Late Models.
Next would be the Modifieds and Jordan Horton would get the pole with a 13:665.
Tops in Classics was Joe "Hot Rod" Keck with a 14:734.
In the Fab Four's Randy Dyke set the standard with a 14:785.
In Pure Street J.J. Green turned a 14:677.

4 Cylinders would be the first feature and after the invert of 4 set the field. Bubby Braden would shoot out to the lead in turn 1. Only to see the caution fly on lap 2 as the #25 of Aaron Hayes made hard contact with the turn 4 wall and bounced back into traffic collecting several cars depleting the field with most suffering major damage and ending their night. Braden was also forced to pit under caution with mechanical problems only to return 1 lap later. Joey Allen would take over the top spot and go on to the win. Jeromy Collins would challange but had to settle for second. Travis Dawson made his first ever visit to Tazewell worth his while as he turned in a very respectable third place finish. Braden would return to finish fourth and Hayes rounded out the top 5. Braden would be crowned the King of the 4's by finishing off a great season with the Track Championship in hand.

Next up would be the Classics. After a straight up start with zero being the invert. The #34 of Phillip Shockley would lead going into turn 1 getting heavy pressure from "Hot Rod" Keck and "Charging" Charlie Tharp as they ran nose to tail for the majority of the race until Shockley finally put a few car lengths between himself and the field to take the win. Keck and Tharp would battle for second with Keck coming out on top. Fourth would go to Eli Keck and rounding out the top 5 would be Shane Lockhart. As Lockhart finished off his rookie season winning the Track Championship and Rookie of the Year.

After another straight up start. One of the fan favorite divisions at Tazewell Speedway the Modified Streets hit the track for their always exciting event. Outside polesetter Jason Sizemore won the race to turn one to take the early lead as the top nine cars were all over one another swapping paint and positions each and every lap. With the Championship on the line between Robbie Buchanan and Jordan Horton both drivers spun simultaneously sending both to the rear. On the restart fourth place starting Gary Blanken had started his run to the front by dropping to the low grove and taking the lead on lap 11. As Blanken went on to take the win followed closely by Sizemore, with Clyde Overholt, Brad Davis and Buchanan rounding out the top 5. The Championship came down to the last lap with several factors involved. Buchanan and Horton were racing hard to get back to the front from the earlier spin. When Buchanan and David Clark made contact on the front straight sending both to the inside and collecting Horton who slammed hard into the inside wall ending his night and possibly his hopes for winning the Championship. Buchanan came into the night trailing by a mere 8 points and had to make up some serious time with only a few laps remaining with a damaged race car and Horton had to set and watch in agony as his dreams of being crowned the Champ could be fading away. While all of this was taking place Overholt who was in third in points and still a slim chance of winning the chase was steadly running in the top 5 all night. Buchanan would make it back to fifth only to come up 2 points shy of the championship and Overholt would finish third just 7 points out in one of the most hotly contested points battles ever at the Taz as Horton's wait for the Championship ended in his favor.

Late Models

After a top 4 invert Keith Chapman would take a early lead on J. Allen and continue to put space between him and second place. Fast qualifier Steve Smith began to make his charge to the front with Jason Trammell in tow as they both passed Allen moving into the top 3. As Smith and Trammell had closed in on Chapman on lap 11 going into turn 1. Chapman abruptly slowed with Smith having to try and avoid contact without much success ending his night. Trammell also spun to avoid Chapman but substained minor damaged and was able to continue and inherit the lead. Trammell would go on to the win and collect another Championship (6 Time Track Champion) for his trophy case. Billy Gordon would have his season best finish with a second place run. Jody Horton would run third, Rookie of the Year Matthew Holt also had his best finish with fourth, and rookie Jeremiah Woody would get a top 5.

Last but certainly not least the Pure Street took to the speedway. Fast qualifier "Double J" Green would have to start 4th after the invert. With top contenders Aaron Guinn and Jonathan Miracle on the front row. Guinn would take a early lead with Miracle all up in his business and they would stay that way for several laps. While Green was trying to make his way to the front he and Buster Cupp were in a furious battle for third. They made contact in the middle of turns 3 & 4 with Green getting up on two wheels on the outside wall. After coming down on all four Green was slammed hard into the back of his car by Steve Harmon with both cars suffering major damage and sending both home for the night. Guinn started to put some space between Miracle and went on to take his second victory in a row. Miracle came on to finish second holding off Dustin Eldridge. Rookie of the Year Jason Saylor came home fourth and Cupp rounding out the top 5. Eldridge would end the point season celebrating his first Track Championship.

Tazewell Speedway would like to thank each and every fan, driver, and crew member for their continued support. Without you there would be no Tazewell Speedway.
