CARR, ALVEY SPLIT SPORTSMAN WINS
TRAMMELL HOLDS OFF COLLINS FOR LATE MODEL WIN

June 22, 2013 - The ever faithful Tazewell Speedway fans came out in droves on Saturday night and were rewarded with some of the best racing of the season.

Modified Street were up first in their twenty lap feature. Gary Blanken would set fast time with a lap of 13.610 seconds. Brad Davis would qualify second and after the invert draw would start on the outside of the front row alongside Warren McMahan. As the field took the green and stormed into the first turn Davis would get sideways coming out of two and get collected by another car. Davis limped to the pits with a flat left rear tire and since no laps had been recorded would get his back his starting spot. On the restart Davis would race door to door with McMahan for the top spot with Blanken lurking behind them. McMahan used the bottom groove to keep up with Davis, pulling up alongside Davis several times. On lap fifteen McMahan dropped out with mecahnical woes handing second over to Blanken yet it wasn't enough to catch Davis. Notching his fourth win of the season Davis celebrated in Victory Lane in the Old Town Grill, Jeffers Exterminating, A-1 Tint and Detail, Andrews Construction, Just Bounce, Country Gun & Pawn, Phantom Race Engines powered Renegade Race Car.

In Sportsman action Rogersville's Steve Carr would set fast time and after the invert draw would start third in the feature. Josh Chesney and Anthony Burchett would bring the field to the green flag. Burchett would lead the first circuits as Carr slipped into second on lap three. By lap six Carr cuaght up to Burchett using the bottom groove. On lap eleven they would come out of turn four side by side. As they went into turn two Burchett's car bobbled allowing Carr to slip by and take the lead for good. Carr's Hopson Fabrication Race Car is powered by a Spider's Race Engine and is sponosred by Odello Industries and Holston Auto Parts.

Fourteen Tazewell Late Models signed in with Greg Estes of Jonesville, VA setting quick time with a lap of 12.181 seconds. He would start on the outside of the front row alongside Steve Smith who took the early lead followed by Estes, Josh Henry, Anthony Arnwine and Jody Horton. The caution would fly on lap three as Horton slowed with problems. On the restart Estes was tattooed to the rear bumper of Smith and took the lead on lap five. On the next lap Smith would exit with electrical problems moving Henry up into second. By lap twenty Estes had pulled away from Henry by a full straight and was seemingly on cruise control. On lap twenty-one as Estes was trying to pass the lap car of Chris Chandler he would clip Chandler's mount sending Estes into the outside wall on the front stretch. Estes's car would end end down at the bottom of turn one with the front nose piece pointed skyward and the toe-in severely affected. Chandler would be black-flagged for failure to obey the lay-over flag. Estes would get his spot back at the front. On the restart Henry and Arnwine battled for the second spot as Estes struggled with and ill handling car. Arnwine would move into second and Estes would hold on for his third win of the season in the Estes Bros Construction, Boones BP, Powell Valley National Bank, South-West Insurance, Vic Hill Racing Engine powered Warrior Race Car.

In Pure Street action Tim Stevens and Toby Turner would share the front row after the blind draw. Stevens would jump into the lead followed by Jason Saylor, Turner, and Jonathan Miracle. Stevens would lead every lap and take the checkered flag yet after a post-race inspection was disqualified giving Jonathan Miracle the win in the Dodge Ram Pick-up.

Arguably the best race was of the night was the Classic Car feature. Ten cars initially signed in yet right before the feature four other cars showed up after racing at another track. Justin Overton would jump out front at the start followed by Josh Chesney, Shane Lockhart, Jason Beeler and Joel Wolfenbarger. On lap two Overton and Chesney would tangle in turn one bringing out the caution. Lockhart would assume the lead with Wolfenbarger moving into second on the fifth lap. By lap nine Matt Tharp moved from his sixth starting spot up into third and would take second away from Wolfenbarger on lap ten and start challenging Lockhart for the lead. Tharp would take the lead away on lap twelve and hang on for the win. Last week's winner Phillip Thompson would work his way up from the tail of the field to finish second. Tharp's third win of the season came in the Red Eyes Racing, Carway Auto Sales Classic Car Sedan.

In a rare treat 4 Cylinders were allowed to qualify with fan favorite Kurt Owens of Newport setting fast time with a lap of 14.531 seconds. Owens would share the front row of the feature with his close friend Chuck McMahan. Owens took the early lead with McMahan in tow followed by Randy Dyke and Josh Fields. Owens would lead very lap yet his win was disallowed following a postrace inspection. This would give McMahan his ninth win of the season in the Round Boy Motorsports, Jim Ford Automotive, Lowes Auto Parts Ford Mustang.
