2008 Tazewell Speedway Modified Street Rules 

 

Eligible Models
Any factory U.S. production models made in 1965 or after. No trucks, station wagons or convertibles. Minimum wheel base for any car is 107 inches. The car must be full stock frame. Tube frames will NOT be allowed. The following are the only changes permitted, everything else must remain stock.
 

Bodies
Steel aftermarket stock appearing bodies allowed. Roof may be fiberglass and hood may be aluminum. Must retain stock fire wall and floor pan in stock location. Floor pan must extend to the rear seat area. Floor pan can be reinforced with steel plate. Plastic nose and tail permitted. Tail piece is required. May be enclosed with sheet medal. A five inch tall spoiler is allowed. No side braces allowed. All glass, head lights, exterior lights and trim must be removed. Front and rear wheel openings may be trimmed for tire clearance. No sharp edges. Steel tube front and rear bumpers may replace stock bumpers. Front bumper may be made of maximum 1 ½ o.d. x .125 thickness or 1 ¾ o.d. x .095 thickness tubing. Rear may be a maximum of 2 x 3 o.d. x .125 thickness rectangular tubing.
All body parts must be inplace to start the race. Track discretion if you're involved in a accident.
 

Roll Cage
ALL CARS MUST HAVE A SIX (6) POINT ROLL CAGE. Roll bar material must be minimum 1 ½ inch o.d. tubing by .095 thickness. It is recommended that welded joints have a gusset of minimum 1/8" thick steel. No conduit, thin-wall tubing or cast-iron pipe fittings will be permitted. All roll bar installations are subject to approval by the Technical Inspector. Door bars are mandatory and must extend into the door panels. A minimum of three door bars with six vertical studs equally spaced are required on the drivers side. Right side X is permitted. All bars within reasonable reach of the driver must be padded. Side wing bars are mandatory on both sides of the roll cage, and must extend downward at 90E degrees from the apex of upper forward roll bar bend, to top of the side door bar. The side wing bars must be the same material as Roll Cage. (minimum 1½ x .095). Uni body cars may tie the front clip to the rear clip. The rear-clip may be reinforced with round or box steel tubing (2" x 3" recommended). One or more bars are required from left front upright of roll cage to the frame for foot protection.
 

Weight Requirements
Car must weigh 3,000 pounds (with driver) before qualifying and before the race. Any car not meeting the minimum weight requirement prior to qualifying will not qualify. Any car that fails the weight requirement before the race will add the weight and start in the rear. All weight added to the car must be securely mounted with a minimum of two 3/8 grade 8 bolts. It must be painted white and the car number must be visible. Any weight dropped on the racing surface will result in immediate disqualification.
 

Engine Restrictions
Engine must be stock production. Engines may be interchanged within corporate manufacturer lines (i.e. any GM motor into any GM car) Maximum cubic inch for any GM engine is 360, Ford 360, Chrysler 370. No V-6 engines allowed.
 

Engine Block
O.E.M. cast iron, may be 2 or 4 bolt main. Aftermarket main caps allowed. Engine must remain in stock location, 1 inch tolerance.
 

Cylinder Heads
O.E.M. stock cast iron GM or World Products Part numbers 4265, 4266, and 4267 only. No aluminum heads permitted. Maximum valve size for GM 2.02/1.60, Ford 2.04/1.65, Chrysler 2.02/1.62. No angle plug heads allowed. Vortec cast iron heads are allowed. No porting, polishing, gasket matching or grinding allowed. May be angle milled. Three angle valve job permitted. Stainless steel valves permitted.
 

Crankshaft
Stock or aftermarket crankshafts allowed, must be of stock stroke and weight. (i.e. GM 350 = 3.480 stroke), cast 48 lbs., steel 50 lbs. May be balanced.
 

Connecting Rods
Stock or any aftermarket steel rods permitted. No aluminum or titanium rods allowed.
 

Pistons
Cast or forged, flat top pistons only. Zero deck (piston can not come out of the hole). No tolerance.
 

Timing Components
Any high performance camshaft allowed, except no roller or mushroom camshafts. Stock type solid or stock type hydraulic lifters only. No roller or mushroom lifters permitted. Dual roller timing chain or gear drive permitted.
 

Rocker Arms
Stock, long slot or roller rockers allowed. Rocker arm studs may be pinned or screw in studs. Guide plates, poly locks and stud girdles allowed. Shaft mounted rockers not permitted. Valve springs and retainers optional.
 

Oil Pump/Pan/Valve Covers
Stock or aftermarket permitted. Wet sump only.
 

Intake Manifold
Cast iron or aluminum intakes only. All intake manifolds must be untouched, as originally manufactured by the factory. Any manifold that is determined to be modified will be subject to disqualification. No homemade intake manifolds allowed.
 

Exhaust
Headers allowed. No turn downs. Must run parallel to the ground, may run side to side.
 

Carburetor
750 CFM maximum. Single pump, dual line, vacuum secondary carburetor only. Choke may be removed, but choke horn must remain. Two inch maximum adapter plate permitted. No alterations to venturi. Mechanical throttle linkage must have toe strap. A minimum of two return springs required on carburetor.
 

Fuel And Fuel Cell
Pump and racing fuel allowed (no additives). No Methanol, alcohol or nitrous oxide allowed. A fuel cell is required. The pick up must be located on the top of the fuel cell. Maximum capacity cannot exceed 22 gallons. Fuel cells must be contained in a completely enclosed 18 gauge steel container. No aluminum fuel cells are allowed. All fuel cells must be vented and have a screw type cap. Must have coiled tube to prevent leaking of fuel in the event of a roll over. Vent check valves are optional but the loop is mandatory. Cell may not hang lower than the rear end housing and must have a cell guard minimum 1 1/2" tube to bottom of cell. Gas cap may not extend thru body. When plumbing any fuel related item, DO NOT USE PLUMBERS TAPE. Fuel pump must be mechanical, mounted in stock location. No electric fuel pumps or pressurized tank systems of any type permitted. Fuel injection or superchargers not permitted. Easily accessible fuel shut-off valve is recommended on right side of the driver.
 

Ignition
May use heavy duty, factory electronic and HEI units (stock housing, any cap, rotor, module or coil). No MSD units (rev limiters permitted). No crank triggered ignition or computers.
 

Water Pumps
May use cast stock or aftermarket aluminum pumps.
 

Radiator
Aftermarket aluminum radiator and fan shroud permitted. Must have catch tank on radiator overflow, minimum two quarts. Any car leaking water on the track will be black flagged.
 

Power Steering Pumps
Stock or aftermarket block mounted power steering pumps allowed. May use external reservoir. Steering may be quickened.
 

Pulleys
Any steel or aluminum pulleys permitted.
 

Air Cleaner
Any type of air cleaner permitted. No air boxes and no funneling devices.
 

Battery
Only one battery may be used, automotive or marine battery permitted. Battery may be mounted in trunk area. All batteries must be securely mounted with an angle iron frame on top and bottom. Batteries mounted in drivers compartment must have a complete rubber covering. No plastic battery boxes permitted.
 

Starter
Stock, aftermarket replacement or mini starter okay. Must mount in stock location on block. No reverse or bell housing mount starters allowed.
 

Flywheel
Any
 

Clutch
Any clutch will be allowed.
 

Transmission
Stock type O.E.M. manual or automatic transmissions only. Must have forward and reverse. Converter- less automatics okay. No Bert or Brinn transmissions or direct drive allowed. All vehicles must have operational reverse gear and be able to shift from forward to reverse with the engine running. Transmission oil coolers, if used, must be securely mounted outside of drivers compartment. It is recommended that manual transmissions have a SEMA/NASCAR approved steel bell housing or scatter shield and automatics use a blanket or approved scatter shield. Driveline and Brakes
Stock or 9 inch Ford allowed, any gear, full spools, mini-spools or welded spider gears allowed. No quick change, Detroit locker or gold track units allowed. No wide five hubs. Floater rear ends and aftermarket high strength axles okay, and are recommended. Driveline must be steel only, and painted white. Two driveline hoops required, front and rear. Material should be ¼ in thick and 2 inches wide. May use any type of brakes.
 

Steering and Suspension
OEM steering box only. No racks. Center link and tie rods may be fabricated. Tubular upper a-frames allowed. Bite bolts allowed. Front shocks may be relocated. Aftermarket springs may be used. Any rear suspension allowed (other than birdcages).
 

Wheels and Tires
Any U.S. manufactured steel wheel permitted, 10 inch maximum width bead to bead. No lightweight or aluminum wheels. Center of wheel must be of heavy duty construction. 5/8 wheel studs mandatory. ½ inch wheel spacers allowed, one per wheel. No wheel adaptors allowed. Wheel off-set optional. Bead locks permitted on all four wheels. Any track approved D.O.T tire allowed. Hoosier RC-3 and American Racer  DT-48 tire compounds are permitted. No grooving or alterations. No mud and snow or recap tires permitted.
 

Radios and Mirrors
