Tazewell Speedway Steel-Head Late Model Rules
Body
Body will follow the Lucas Oil Series body rules and
must have a stock appearing plastic nose. An 8"
tall spoiler is allowed, with maximum 8" tall
side braces. Maximum 20" at the base and must
be cut on an angle. No spoilers or wings on top. All
cars running crate engines will be allowed a 12"
Spoiler, ONLY if the FasTrak Crate Late Models are
not running.
Weight
Cars will be weighed before qualifying and before
the race. Any car not meeting the minimum weight requirement
prior to qualifying will not qualify. Cars with 362
cid engines must weigh a minimum of 2,400 pounds (with
driver). Cars with GM Crate Engine #602 may weigh
2,100 pounds (with driver),ONLY if the FasTrak Crate
Late Models are not running. Cars with GM Crate Engine
#604 may weigh 2,200 pounds (with driver),ONLY if
the FasTrak Crate Late Models are not running. Cars
with a wet sump oil system will receive a 50 lb. weight
break. Cars with a flat tappet cam will receive a
50 lb. weight break. All weight added to the car must
be securely mounted with a minimum of two 3/8 grade
8 bolts. It must be painted white and the car number
must be visible. Any weight dropped on the racing
surface will result in immediate disqualification.
Engine
Cast iron blocks only. Cast iron 23 degree heads only.
Flat top pistons only. Zero deck (piston can not come
out of the hole). No tolerance. Steel rods only, no
aluminum or titanium. Maximum 362 cubic inches. (GM,
Ford or Chrysler). Bore and stroke optional. One spark
plug and two valves per cylinder. Must be naturally
aspirated. No turbo-charges, blowers or fuel injection.
One 4 barrel carburetor only. Dry Sump engine is optional.
Maximum Engine Setback of six inches ONLY.
GM Crate Engines #602 or #604 will be allowed to run
in the Limited Late Model division,ONLY if the FasTrak
Crate Late Models are not running. These engines are
sealed at the Intake Manifold, Cylinder Head, Front
Cover, and Oil Pan with special twist off bolt heads.
Fastrack rules will apply to the engine only. Crate
Engines must not be altered, modified or changed from
factory specs. The sealed Engine must be remain intact
and not be tampered with; any seals that have been
removed or tampered with will make the engine illegal
and not eligible for competition. The penalty for
anyone tampering with seals, modifying any internal
engine parts, changing the parts from stock as delivered
sealed from the factory will be subject to expulsion
from racing. No changes are allowed to the Engine.
Intake manifold, heads, valve covers, front cover,
oil pan, harmonic balancer or any other part / and
or parts, or in the engine. All crate engines must
remain stock as they came sealed from the factory.
Ignition
Any type of ignition will be permitted. No traction control
allowed. MSD units (or equivalent) may be purchased for $300.
Fuel
Gasoline only. No Alcohol, Nitrous Oxide, Nitrobenzene, or any
other additives meant to increase oxidation rate of the fuel.
No electric fuel pumps.
Fuel Cell
A fuel cell is required. The pick up must be located on the
top of the fuel cell. Maximum capacity cannot exceed 32
gallons. Fuel cells must be contained in a completely enclosed
18 gauge steel container. No aluminum fuel cells are allowed.
Fuel cells must be completely visible and not mounted lower
than the bottom of the quick-change rear end. All fuel cells
require a minimum of two (2) 2" by 18" steel straps as
mounting support. A minimum 1-1/2" O.D. tubing braced hoop is
required to be in place at all times behind the fuel cell.
Transmission
Any type of clutch is permitted. Bert and Brinn Transmissions
allowed. Must have a forward and reverse. No direct drives.
All vehicles must have operational reverse gear and be able to
shift from forward to reverse with the engine running.
Suspension
Any type of rear suspension. Four Links, Z Links, mono leafs,
etc. allowed. Top and bottom A-arm can be tubular.
Rear End
Quick change rear-ends are permitted.
Wheels
Aluminum wheels allowed. Maximum width 15 inches.
Tires
Hoosier: LM40, 1600, all 55s, and 1350.
American Racer: MD-56 and MD-48
Goodyear: G45
No grinding whatsoever
and number must be visible on the outside. If the numbers have been
ground off on the outside they will be thrown out. No
exceptions.
Radios and Mirrors
No radios, mirrors or any other two-way communication
devices are permitted.
