Announcement regarding Tazewell Speedway’s Lucas Oil date

Tazewell Speedway has been a fixture on the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model series since the first year of series competition in 2005.  Tazewell is one of the few tracks that have been on the schedule every year since Labor Day Weekend 2005 when Jimmy Owens won Tazewell’s first series event. On Wednesday October 16, Tazewell Speedway was informed by Lucas Oil Series management that it would no longer have an opportunity to host a series event starting with 2020.  We would like to thank every fan, sponsor, and race team that has been a part of a Lucas Oil Series event at Tazewell Speedway over the last 15 years. Toyota Knoxville has been a great title sponsor of the Tazewell Lucas Oil Series race every season since 2006 and we greatly appreciate their support over the years.
At this point we have not been given any significant reason why the Lucas Oil Late Model Series revoked Tazewell Speedway’s opportunity to have a date on the series schedule.  Our relationship with the Lucas Series has been well established over the past 15 years and the working relationship between the officials, race teams, and drivers has always been positive. Tazewell Speedway wanted to continue working with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and planned to schedule the annual event next year and beyond.
We appreciate the thousands of fans that have traveled hundreds of miles from multiple states over the years to attend a Lucas race at Tazewell.  Your support of this race over the years did not go unnoticed.  The variety of license plates represented in the parking lots during the Lucas Oil event told the story of the many fans who traveled long distances to see a favorite driver race at Tazewell.  The roar of the crowd could be heard over the racing cars at Tazewell when something exciting happened on the track during the annual Lucas event.  We truly appreciate the thousands of fans that covered the Tazewell hillside over the past 15 years. Tazewell Speedway was never notified of any problems or corrections that needed to be made at any of the LOLMS events. We have made every effort to work with series management to ensure that Tazewell remains on the Lucas schedule. However, series management has elected to eliminate one of only 3 tracks that has been with them since the beginning and now after 15 years have kicked us to the curb. We hope to see you at one of our events in 2020, we will race on. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Gary Hall
