Dakotah Knuckles of Ewing, VA used a last lap pass on Knoxville’s Jason Trammell to score his second career Late Model victory in a thriller at Tazewell Speedway. Trammell set quick time in qualifying with a lap of 11.622 seconds with Knuckles and Bobby Mays of Jonesborough turning the second and third quickest times. With Trammell drawing the three on the invert draw Mays would start on the pole of the thirty lap feature with Knuckles starting on the outside of the front row.

With the drop of the green Knuckles quickly took control with Trammell slipping past Mays on the back stretch for second. Forrest Trent of Talbott and last week’s winner Josh Collins of Powell took the fourth and fifth spots in the early laps. By lap five Knuckles and Trammell distanced themselves from the rest of the field by a very wide margin. On lap eleven Trammell made the move on Knuckles as the duo raced door to door on the front stretch. Trammell cleared Knuckles coming out of turn two to take the lead.

The caution flag would fly on lap thirteen as contact between Greeneville’s Jerry Williams and Taran Hurst of Bulls Gap sent Williams crashing into the outside wall in turn three. Williams would walk away uninjured. On the restart Trammell smashed the loud pedal and began putting distance between himself and Knuckles. As the laps were winding down it appeared that Trammell was on his way to first win since May 17th. Knuckles had other plans. As Trammell was working his way past lap traffic Knuckles was using the high line to find speed. With two to go Knuckles closed the gap down to three car lengths. Seeing the white flag flying Knuckles got up on the wheel and set his sights on Trammell. As the pair stormed into turn three Knuckles shot to the bottom and took the lead coming out of turn four bringing the entire crowd to their feet . “Mr. Showtime” cleared Trammell at the stripe for his second career Limited Late Model win in the Hickory Star Resort & Marina, Marcum Oil, Jovida Enterprises, Florida Vet Cardiology, Fast Lane Sign & Graphics, Vic Hill Racing Engine powered Rocket Race Car.
