Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Event Information The O'Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series returns to Tazewell Speedway this Sunday, September 6 for the Buddy Rogers Memorial 44. The $5,000 to win race will draw many of Kentucky's best dirt late model drivers to go against many of East Tennessee's best dirt late model drivers. Series points leader Victor Lee will try to make up for the earlier disappointment at Tazewell when engine problems prevented him from racing in the Battle of the Bluegrass' last appearance at Tazewell in May. Lee will have fellow Kentucky drivers David Webb, Tim Tungate, Michael Chilton, Bobby Wolter Jr., and Dustin Linville accompany him to Tazewell to go head-to-head against Rick Rogers, Billy Ogle Jr., Steve Smith, Shon Flanary, and Jason Trammell. The O'Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass cars will qualify to set the lineup for the 10-lap heat race. Consolation races will fill out the rest of the starting field that will lead to the 44-lap feature. Also racing at Tazewell Speedway will be the modified street, pure street, 4 cylinder, and classic car divisions. During intermission, the 2009 class of the Tazewell Speedway Hall of Fame will be inducted. Jim Armwine, H.E. Vineyard, and Charles Trammell will become the second class of the Hall of Fame. Tickets are $20 for adults, children 10 and under are free. Pit passes are $30. Pit gates open at 4:00 and grandstand gates open at 5:00. Racing will begin at 7:30. Prior to the running of the Buddy Rogers Memorial 44, fans, race teams, and businesses can make contributions to the American Cancer Society. With a $44 donation, anyone can sponsor one of the 44 laps of the race or make a contribution of any other amount that will go directly to the American Cancer Society. Anyone wishing to sponsor a lap or make any other contribution can contact Pup Thomas at 865-806-4459. Contributions can also be made at the track the day of the event. In September 2008, Buddy Rogers lost his battle with cancer. The multi-time track champion was one of the most popular drivers in Tazewell Speedway history. His loss has saddened everyone within the racing community in East Tennessee. His son, Rick Rogers, along with Tazewell Speedway owner Gary Hall and Pup Thomas teamed up to put this fundraiser into place to help find a cure for this terrible disease. Individuals and businesses that have already contributed are Hoosier Tire South, James Brummett, Matt Nelson Promotions, Vineyard Racing, Barbara Rogers, Sharon Rogers, Rick Rogers, Bloomquist Race Cars, Jimmy Owens Racing, "Lil" Bill Corum, Herman Goddard, John and Lori Thompson, and Gary Hall Motors. Tazewell
Speedway is located just two miles northwest of Tazewell, Tennessee.
