Travis Fultz of Harrogate, TN led every lap of the 6th Annual Jim Arnwine Memorial, sanctioned by the United Championship Racing Alliance on Saturday night to collect the $3,011 in front of his home crowd. Fultz was quickest among twenty-two entries in qualifying with a lap of 12.278 seconds. Knoxville’s Trevor Sise turned the second quickest time of 12.343 seconds. Three heats were ran to determine the starting field for the forty lap main event. Heat races winners were Fultz, Griifin Smith of Eastonton, GA (his first start at Tazewell Speedway) and Tazewell’s Odie Overholt.
Fultz and Smith would bring the field to the green flag with Fultz using the low groove to take the lead going down the back chute. Behind him Smith, Overholt, Sise and Bradley Lewelling jousted for positions. On lap three, Jason Trammell of Knoxville would spin on his own in turn four, bringing out the caution. On the ensuing restart Overholt would drop out after making contact with Smith. Back underway Sise wrestled second away from Smith and began trying to track down Fultz.
By lap ten Fultz had caught the tail end of the field and began working his way through the traffic, allowing Sise to close the gap on the leader. On lap nineteen, Brandon Williams of Crossville, who started eighth, slipped past Lewelling for third. Sise stayed within striking distance of Fultz until lap thirty whne he retired with a broken driveshaft. Fulz would go unchallenged the rest of the way to score the win and become the first repeat winner of the event piloting the Quality Masonry, Phillip’s Excavating sponsored, D.J.’s Performance Race Engine powered CVR Race Car.
