Benefiting from the bad luck that struck Jody Horton, last year’s Crate Late Model points champion, Odie Overholt, scored his second win in a row. Overholt was quickest in time trials with a lap of 12.162 seconds with Evin Hinkle of Barbourville chiming in the second quickest time of 12.794 seconds. Winning the heat race would put Overholt on the pole of the feature alongside Sneedville’s Jody Horton.

On the opening lap Horton would take the lead coming out of turn two as Overholt and Hinkle filed in line. Horton used the middle groove to hold Overholt at bay and looked to be on the way to his first win of the season. On lap twenty-one the caution flag would fly for a spinning Billy Norwood. On the ensuing restart bad luck would strike Horton as he slowed with a tire issue. Overholt would inherit the lead and cruise for his second win in a row driving the Reece Company, American Rental, Wallace Auto Sales, Brooks Dirt Worx, Tazewell Drug & Express Care, Petty’s Wrecker Service, Bailey’s Body Shop, Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home, Claiborne Fitness, Hometown Produce sponsored CVR Race Car powered by a DJ’s Performance Race Engine.

The wildest action of the night came in the Sportsman feature. Chris Raines was fastest in qualifying with a lap of 12.285 seconds with last week’s winner, Josh Collins, turning the second quickest time. Sneedville’s A.J. Ferguson would best Raines in the first heat to earn the pole for the twenty-five lap feature. Collins won his respective heat to start on the outside of the front row.

On the opening lap of the feature Ferguson’s car would jump the groove in turn two and slam into the side of Collins. The contact would send Collins’ car sideways and collect the car of Logan Seal, who continued on with right side body damage. Collins would retire with front suspension damage from the contact with Seals. Maynardville’s Ryan Carey would inherit the lead on the restart with Ferguson and Tazewell’s Greg Goins and Chris Raines giving chase.

Just past the halfway point it looked that Carey was on his way to his first win of the season yet Goins was closing the gap. With seven laps to go Carey’s car would slow on the back stretch. Goins, in his fifty-eighth start, would take over the lead, hit his marks just right and held off Raines to earn his first career victory. The win for the 2021 Rookie of the Year came in the Whitt’s Place Butcher Shop, Nuyen’s Hauling, Powerhouse Diesel, Greer Hauling, Tim Chittum Trucking, Jose’s Casa Mexican Restaurant, Tyler Moyers with Southland Realtors, E&M Premium Boat and RV Storage, C&C Feed, City Smoke Shop sponsored Rayburn Race Car.
