Overholt Earns Fifth Win in a Row, Raines Reins in First Win of the Season; Stevens, Merritt and Worley Get Wins at Tazewell Speedway

Second-generation driver Odie Overholt of Tazewell took the lead on the opening lap and never looked back to earn his fifth win in a row on Saturday night. Gray, Ky’s Matthew Smith recorded the fastest lap in qualifying of 12.422 seconds with Overholt turning the second quickest lap, yet would be relegated to start third in his heat due to winning his fourth feature in a row two weeks ago.
Smith would easily win his respective heat and Overholt would muscle his way past Tyler Smith and Jody Horton to win his heat and set the front row for the thirty lap feature. Using the preferred outside starting spot on the front row Overholt would shoot into the lead coming out of turn two Behind him Matthew Smith and Tyler Smith (no relation) would battle for second. Up front Overholt set a quick pace and began pulling away. The caution flag would fly with seven to go and reset the field yet Overholt was able to charge his way to his fifth win in a row driving the Reece Company, American Rental, Wallace Auto Sales, Brooks Dirt Worx, Tazewell Drug & Express Care, Petty’s Wrecker Service, Bailey’s Body Shop, Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home, Claiborne Fitness, Hometown Produce sponsored CVR Race Car powered by a DJ’s Performance Race Engine.

In Sportsman action, Chris Raines of Tazewell, earned his first win of the season, leading every lap of the feature. His good buddy Logan Seal of Sneedvile was quickest in qualifying with Josh Collins of Powell second. Seals would win his heat and Raines would move past Collins to win his heat to set the front row for the twenty-five lap feature
Using the top groove coming out of turn two Raines would take the lead as Seal, Collins, A.J. Ferguson and Greg Goins fell into line. By lap five Raines had a 1.2 second lead over Seal. The yellow flag would fly on lap eight for a spinning Mark Sexton. On the restart Seal and Collins would start pressuring Raines for the lead. Raines would lead the rest of the way for his first win of the season piloting the 84 Lumber, Brucebilt Performance, Car Was Headquarters, DJ Steamers, Walker Excavation, RaceWrapz, Price Plumbing, Star Septic, Clinch River Adventures, The Barber Shop, Darker In-tint-ions, Smith’s Gutters & Siding sponsored Capital Race Car.
