Four in a row for Overholt, Trammell gets steel head win

After nearly a month off the ground-pounding, high-horsepower Limited Late Models were back on showcase at Tazewell Speedway. Picking up where he left off, Jason Trammell of Knoxville would lead every lap of the feature to notch his fifth straight win of the year. Twelve cars from around the region signed in with Trammell turning in the only sub-12 second qualifying lap of 11.606 seconds. Josh Collins of Powell, in his first start of the season, recorded the second fastest time.

Drawing the one on the invert draw would give Trammell the pole position for the thirty lap feature with Collins starting on the outside of the front row. From the drop of the green Trammell shoved his way into the lead trailed by Collins, Bobbys Mays of Jonesborough, Brian Shockley of Thorn Hill and Tazewell's David Clark. By the second lap Dakotah Knuckles of Ewing, Va had moved past Clark to take over fifth after starting in the eighth spot. On lap nine Mays would get sideways and as he came down the track Clark slammed into his driver door. Both cars were heavily damaged and retired from the event. On the retart Knuckles started putting pressure on Shockley for third and eight laps later would take the spot away.

The action would slow down on lap twenty-two for Lynn Leach of Clinton who spun in turn two collecting Chris Barton of Pineville, Ky in the process. On the ensuing restart Knuckles would drag race Collins down the back chute and take over second place. Up front Trammell would put the Fastlane Signs & Graphics, Quality Medical Center, Trammell Construction, Hatmaker Holdings, High Velocity Heads, Integra Shocks, Charlie Brown Screen Printing & Embroidery, Hoosier Tire by Pup, Vic Hill Race Engine powered Rayburn Race Car on cruise control and hold off Knuckles for his fifth win of the season. Trammell would also collect the Mid Season Points Champion trophy.Limited Late Models1. 90J Jason Trammell2. 21K Dakotah Knuckles3. 63 Josh Collins4. 17 Brian Shockley5. 11 Anthony Arnwine6. 18 Michael Rutherford7. 144 Chris Barton8. 22 Taran Hurst9. 22 Lynn Leach10. 22 Matthew Holt11. 25 Bobby Mays12. 1 David ClarkA season high nineteen Sportsman Late Models signed in with Kentucky's Cody Smith setting the quickest time in qualifying of 12.158 seconds. Tazewell's Clyde Overholt would turn in the second fastest time and start on the pole of the twenty lap feature after the invert draw. At the drop of the green flag Overholt would take the point as Smith, Luttrell's Matt Tharp and points leader Jonathan Miracle gave chase. On the second circuit Tharp would shove his way past Smith for second. David Clark, doing double duty driving duties, would bring out the yellow on lap four as he spun in turn two. On the restart Tharp pulled alongside Overholt to challenge for the lead. Four laps later Smith would drop pitside with a flat tire. After several cautions for spinning cars the field would get a few clean green laps. On lap thirteen Tharp once again pulled even with Overholt looking for the lead. Two circuits later Miracle would flex his muscle as he moved past Tharp on the back stretch. Tharp would not give the spot up easy as he tried a dive bomb move in four trying to take the spot back. Just as the leaders took the white flag a spinning car would once again bring out the caution setting up a green/white/checkered finish. With one to go Tharp would slip by Miracle for second yet it wasn't enough to catch Overholt who scored his fourth win in a row piloting the Overholt Racing & Fabrication, Noah's Wholesale, Petty's Wrecker Service, Baker's Tree Service, Eagle Race Engine powered Rayburn Race Car.
