Jason Trammell of Knoxville muscled his way into the early lead of the Limited Late Model feature and go on to lead every lap to score his first win since May 17th and take home the $1,550 in a Friday night special at Tazewell Speedway.

Trammell turned the fastest lap among ten entries in time trials with a lap of 11.671 seconds. Knoxville’s Brad Hall and last week’s winner Dakotah Knuckles of Ewing, VA turned in the second and third fastest times. Trammell pulled the two on the invert draw placing him on the outside of the front row alongside Hall for the thirty lap feature.

From the drop of the green it was a shootout between Hall and Trammell for the lead. Hall used the low line to battle door to door with Trammell for the first two circuits. Sticking to the bottom groove Hall would take the lead coming out of turn four on lap three. On the next lap Hall would slide up in turn three allowing Trammell to take the lead coming out of turn four. Behind them Knuckles had his hands fuill holding off Loudon’s Cory Hedgecock and Limited Late Model points leader Josh Collins of Powell who was driving a car owned by David Clark after suffering engine woes in his primary car last Saturday night.

On lap seven Hall would spin on his own in turn two bringing out the caution. He would rteire from the race with right front suspension trouble. On the ensuing restart Knuckles’ car broke a right rear shock mount which sent the right rear wheel flying across the track and ending his quest for three wins in a row.

Back up front Trammell seized the opportunity and started putting distance between himself and Hedgcock. By the halfway mark Trammell had pulled away to a full straightaway length’s advantage. He would lead the rest of the way for his third win of the season in the Fast lane Signs & Graphics, Trammell Construction, Hatmaker Holdings, Quality Medica Centerl,  HVH Heads, Hoosier Race Tires by Pup, Shorty’s Shock Service, Charlie Brown Co. Travis Fultz of Harrogate would turn the fastest lap in qualifying with a lap of 12.169 seconds with Overholt and Tazewell’s Bryan Howerton turning in the second and third quickest times. After qualifying was completed Fultz’s time was disallowed. Tazewell Speedway’s Sportsman rules dictate that a driver cannot have won a Limited Late Model feature within the last three years and Fultz won a race back in August of 2013. He would be allowed to start on the tail end of the Limited Late Model feature.

Howerton and Overholt would start on the front row of the feature. Several starts were attempted with drivers getting antsy to get the feature underway. During of the attempted starts Warren McMahan of Dandridge and Chris Barton of Pineville, KY would make contact on the back stretch sending both cars spinning hard into the inside wall. McMahan would be evaluated for a possible injury.

Brad Davis of Tazewell spoiled Newport’s Kurt Owens’ quest for three in a row in the Super Stock feature. Owens would turn the quickest lap in qualifying and draw the one in the invert draw. This would give him the pole position in the feature alongside Davis. On the first attempt at a start Davis would make contact with the outside wall in turn four and cut down a right rear tire. Davis would retain his starting spot since a lap had not been completed.

After bringing the field around for a clean start Davis would take the lead trailed by Robbie Buchanan of Tazewell, Owens and Jamie Whitt of Wise, VA. Before the second lap was completed the caution flag would fly as Phillip Nichols made contact with Chris Rickett of Morristown sending Rickett sliding down the front stretch and  making hard contact with the inside wall. Also involved was the car of Sneedville’s Tony Horton. Both drivers were forced to retire from the race with heavy damage and Nichols was penalized for rough driving.

With the race track cleared Davis and Buchanan pulled away from the rest of the field with Buchanan tattooed to the back bumper of Davis. The yellow flag would fly on lap six as Owens slowed on the track with a flat right rear tire. He would restart at the tail end of the field. Meanwhile Buchanan, who was looking for his first win of the year, kept the pressure on Davis for the lead. While they were duking it out Owens had worked his way back through the field and into third.

Buchanan’s bid for the win came to an end on lap ten due to a blown water pump gasket. With the laps winding down Davis would hold off Owens for the win in the Jeffers Exterminating, Tires Etc, Andrews Construction, Soul Bleeds, Southern Outdoors, Little Caesars Pizza, A-1 Tint & Graphics, Phantom Race Engines powered Rainmaker Race Car.
